Truth Be Told …

We’ve all been there. Rough day at the office, bad breakup, and simply just being emotionally triggered. Thinking let’s take that edge off with a glass (or several) of our favorite wine … or stronger. Waking up the next morning with the worlds worst hangover and swearing to everyone you won’t drink again … simply to only find yourself there next week doing it all over again. Hangovers often accompany a feeling of uneasiness that is, of course, physical, but so often very emotional. We can’t seem to shake an unknown anxiety that lives deep in our bodies, not just our rational mind. Wondering why? Well a lot of it has to do with our gut. Serotonin, our happy hormone, is not limited to the brain. In fact, it is made primarily in your gut! If you’re wondering what that has to do with alcohol consumption, might we relay the friendly reminder that everything we consume is processed through the gut. I know for myself if i’m going out for the night and alcohol is involved, whatever’s on my mind is going to come out. Whether i’ve had one drink or too many to count. If you drink often, or more than most, you may experience the constant anxiety and sometime even depression. Hence why alcohol is considered a depressant. Crazy to think even after a fun night of partying how this delicious substance can do so much damage to your mind and body. One major downside to that heavy pour is destroying your gut microbiota. Leading to a major crash in serotonin hence leading to depression and the anxiety we’re speaking of. It all goes back to the communication this liquid does to the brain and your gut. On the positive side, if you’re living a healthy and happy lifestyle, having one crazy night out or drinking socially won’t hurt anything that isn’t managed by your good habits. Your body just needs balance.
