Travel Diary: Cancún

WELCOME TO Mexico

it’s crazy to think just hours before this trip, three out of the four of us traveling went out day drinking and didn’t recover till the first night in mexico. we weren’t going to let bad food and too many cocktails ruin this vacation! however the trip to the airport the morning of was a sight to see …

WHERE TO STAY

For those of you who read our Travel Diary: Colorado this is the example of what we call the perfect vacation. pool side, endless sangria, sunshine and nothing but the ocean waves in the background. for this trip, my sister and two friends of ours went to cancún to celebrate our friends 40th! we stayed at the live aqua beach resort and would literally go back tomorrow if we could. the minute you walk into the resort you feel as if transported to a spa and relaxation is at your fingertips. we booked everything down to the flight on expedia. by booking with them you'll be able to later gain points for future trips, so it’s honestly a no brainer for us.

the moment we got to the pool bar we made friends with anyone we came in contact with. we thrive going away and getting to meet new people - making new memories and friends from all over the world. one night we even went out to the local club with a group we met at the resort. let’s just say the dancing till 3am and breaking the pool bed was a memory in itself.

Where to Dine

after sitting pool side for so many days and lounging by the beach we decided to leave the resort and try out what the town had to offer. don’t get us wrong, the resort had so many options for food. from asian cuisine to mexican. oddly enough our favorite spot at the resort was the italian option. you wouldn’t think that being in mexico, but we were happy. the friends we went away with actually travel to cancún often, so they already knew of one major spots we had to try out. let’s just say rosanegra did not disappoint. the cuisine was phenomenal. from the squid ink pasta, street corn, tuna, and the octopus. options were endless. the night ended with a traditional ceremony. by traditional we mean a glow in the dark drummer, water, painted, art dance exhibit that was so interactive making for a night to remember for sure!

on one of our last nights there we got a recommendation from another group of new friends we made by the pool to get dinner at thai. it was located in the outlet mall we already got to explore, but we clearly missed this hidden gem right on the water. after devouring some delicious tacos and a couple cocktails, there was silence at the table … able to hear the ocean all around you and take in the beautiful sunset. little did we know the noise underneath us was actually alligators! when the waiter sat us he mentioned something under his breath like “enjoy the gators” … we took that as a joke for the most part. note to self, believe your waiter. it was crazy to hear them moving underneath you since the floor boards were so spaced out. oh, almost forgot to mention the best part of thai. they had tree houses as an option to eat in! imagine … a mall with alligators and tree houses. sounds too good to be true, i know.

oddly enough, one of my favorite memories from this trip was a day that i was alone. i found myself in the pool chatting with this amazing woman from chicago. she was relaxing in this fun little pool floaty and so i complimented her on it like anyone would. on her last day in mexico she left the pool toy and a bottle of wine at my hotel door. the wine was a laugh because she mentioned how it was silly of her to order a bottle of red when they don’t even drink it, so why waste it! as an ode to my new friend from chicago i too passed on the fun yellow pool toy to a new friend i met. i figured why not, since my suitcase was practically overflowing already. this trip was truly one memory after another and we can’t wait to bring you along on our next one!
