homemade hummus

stop buying that premade hummus in the plastic container (you know the one we’re speaking of). sure, it’s ready at your finger tips. but i promise you making this dish at home is faster then the time you’re going to spend on buying that dip. no hate to those premade hummus brands, but making this easy dip at home will impress your guests knowing it’s fresh and made by you! share this recipe with them.

ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups cooked chickpeas (drained/rinsed)

  • 1/3 cup smooth tahini

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  • 2 cloves garlic

  • 5 tablespoons water (or as needed)

  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

  • mediterranean olives (garnish)

  • fresh parsley (garnish)

  • red pepper flakes (garnish)

  • freshly ground black pepper (garnish)

how to make this recipe:

  1. gather your ingredients, food processor and serving dish.

  2. start by roasting your garlic. (optional for that extra punch of garlic)

    • to roast the garlic, remove the loose papery outer pieces of garlic skin. they will become soaked with the oil, and can get mixed into the garlic otherwise. just rub them with your fingertips to remove them.

    • cut the tips of the garlic head to expose the cloves. i like to use a serrated knife to do that which helps if the variety of garlic has a hard inner stem.

    • place the garlic root end down in your baking dish and then drizzle with a little oil. cover to keep the garlic moist. roast the garlic until it is browned and softened. to tell if it is soft, just give the heads a little squeeze: they should yield under the pressure. (use tongs as the garlic will be hot!) alternatively, you can poke the garlic clove to see if they are soft. they will be falling apart when they’re ready.

    • allow the garlic to cool, then squeeze the garlic out of the skins.

  3. combine all of the ingredients in your food processor with the steel blade attachment on. puree the hummus really well for the creamiest texture. be sure to scrape the sides a few time to ensure the rough pieces are blended in.

  4. transfer your creamy hummus into your serving platter and serve with your favorite veggies and fresh pita bread.

  5. enjoy!
