MEET QUINASHA

Hello Hello.

i first want to thank you for being apart of this journey and being one of the first for our new segment “conversations with”. Your story in particularly is one i find so fascinating i just know someone in the world is going to relate with you and your story when reading this. Or so i hope! For those of you who have been living under a rock, Quin hosts a cultural and societal podcast available on all platforms. Topics ranging from Imposter Syndrome, Body Positivity & Astrology. However Quin also moved across the country during a pandemic alone. Talk about a true risk taker.

So Quin …

What would you say has been your hardest challenge since moving over seas?

Hardest part has definitely been making this new place home. I think once the excitement wore off and the adrenaline from such a crazy and fun move calms down you’re like “okay what’s next?” And then you realize I need to actually make this place feel like home. Like find your new go-to spots to get your hair done, make new friends. because while social media and technology made nurturing my friendships back home easier, it’s just not the same with the friends I’m making in person in this new location since they’re all in the beginning stages of friendships. I want to get to the level of friendship where I can invite someone over and we just disintegrate on my couch while eating chips and watching bad tv like I do with my partner. But until then it’s lots of effort to do things in person to hopefully get to that place one day.

What’s a topic you’d love to cover on the podcast you feel you haven’t had the chance to yet?

I’m the type of person that is interested in everyone’s story. you have an experience that shaped you? I’m interested in learning more! But when it comes to myself sometimes I’m stuck like what is it that I can talk about and be comfortable being that level of vulnerable that my guests often do when they feature on my podcast. One thing I’d love to cover for sure is being the breaker of generational curses/ breaking toxic cycles in family structures but that requires airing out a lot I feel. but also maybe not? I’d love to have someone who dedicates their “brand” around that. Or it might be a solo episode who knows.

Do you think society is kinder over seas or is that just a stereotype and no matter where you go it’s simply how you treat others and you get what you put out into the world?

no matter where you go you’ll get kind people and then you’ll get haters, In most cases you’ll get people who are both! I will say over seas, maybe it’s cause I’m an American living in London, people have treated me very kindly and welcoming. I have had many great experiences with people which I truly appreciate. Of course they have A LOT to say about Americans and assume many things about how we are and act, but besides that meeting cool people hasn’t been too hard especially not like how it was in Paris! that’s a story for another day…

Being an “island gal” as we like to say, what’s a tradition you and your family have to this day?

Oh there’s lots! I like to consider myself very caribbean. I’m lucky to be so connected to and In touch with being caribbean despite being a first gen american. I listen to Dancehall, reggae and soca on a daily basis basically. I try to cook caribbean dishes every so often and challenge myself to learn new recipes. I also enjoy visiting my family there and always have a blast when I’m there no matter what. One tradition I’m creating for my family is winter months making metemgee which is a soup with dumplings, and lots of root vegetables slow cooked in coconut milk and broth. So yummy!

Could you possibly share a family recipe with our readers? Preferably something from your Caribbean roots!

Ugh this is hard. I would share my metemgee recipe but I don’t know the exact measurements cause I just cook from the heart and put things in and stop when it feels right honestly. However I will share this Bake and saltfish recipe I got from (candythaglam) on YouTube who I owe everything to when it comes to perfecting my Bake! I already knew how to make saltfish thanks to my mom, but the Bake department was lacking. When I tried this recipe on YouTube it changed my life! I made Bake and saltfish almost every Sunday one month because I was obsessed. thanks again to (CandyThatGlam) again cause girl- i don’t know what I would do without you!
